Good afternoon to all the readers!
Today is the 7th round of the World Chess Championship 2018 with Carlsen having the second straight White game. As was noted in my Round 5 Report, Carlsen would try to make use of his second White game as this time he would have to play with the Black pieces in the reverse game. This looks difficult for Carlsen because he has appeared to be a little exhausted in the Press Conferences thus far and mistakes are creeping up in his games especially after the 4th hour of play.
A rest day yesterday would mean a revitalised Carlsen and this makes it difficult for him being tired. However, there is little doubt he would try to get the maximum of his second White game in a row. I see Carlsen playing 1. Nf3 today( Curiously again going for a different first move). The point mainly would be to lead to 1... d5 2. g3 g6 3. Bg2 Bg7 4. d4 Nf6 5. 0-0 0-0 6. c4 dc4 7. Na3 c5 8. Nc4 cd4 9. Nd4 which quiet possibly is part of Caruana's preparations for the match because Fianchetto Grunfeld 9. Nd4 was part of Caruana's preparation detailed in the Round 4 Report. Caruana definitely would have been prepared well there yet there being only one file for the Fianchetto Grunfeld probably means that it is not extensively prepared( nor as much expected). French No.1 Maxime Vachier Lagrave and a member of ' Team Carlsen' in the 2016 World Championship Match yesterday said that 'Magnus opening play with White is innocous' which probably resonates with the Bruce Lee quote ' I am scared of a man who has prepared one kick 100 times and not from a man who has prepared a hundered kicks once'. This strategy of checking the entire preparation is also usually more effective in a longer match( 24 or 48 games or even longer than that in some match tournaments. Zurich Candidates 1953 strikes a cord immediately). and a 12-game Match is quiet short in that respect. If Carlsen opens with 1. Nf3, I do expect the Fianchetto Grunfeld.

I am quiet sure Carlsen is not going to play 1. e4 e5 2. Bc4 not being able to challenge for much in the Bishop's opening as Caruana was well-prepared back in 2014 and would have also prioritised it for this match. http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1772638 is the link to their 2014 Sinquenfeld Cup 1st round game wherein the Challenger emerged victorious. As we have noted in the predictions earlier, one of Carlsen's main strategies in World Championship Matches have been to limit opponent's preparations. I do not see this as an option for today. 1.e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3.Nc3 may well be an option as the computer screen also showed 9...Nf6 in this variation which probably does mean that Carlsen does now know quiet a bit more than he would otherwise know about Caruana's preparation in this line.
I am almost fully sure Carlsen is not going to play 1.c4 today yet 1. d4 is a plausible alternative. If Caruana continues with 1...Nf6 , I expect 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 Bb4 4. Qc2 as Caruana's repertoire here does not seem as encouraging. If Caruana plays 3...d5, I expect Carlsen to continue with 4. Bf4(thereby again limitting Caruana's preparations!) and make use of this move order intricacy. The likeliness of this happening however is not very much.
Today would be a Litmus test of Carlsen's test of will as tomorrow is the first game he would play with Black on a continuous day. With time running and the challenger looking to be more energetic, this looks like the right moment to strike! Credits: Niki Riga
I am quiet sure it is going to be a very exciting match today. Caruana does have the initiative yet Carlsen can dissipate it with his preparations for today's game. I think Carlsen should try 1. d4 mainly, yet a lot depends on the extent of his preparation here as well. If all of these plans work, Carlsen may think of 1. c4 according to me with precise preparations on the basis of Game 4. A history of World Chess Championship Matches show minor improvements by both the Champion as well as the challenger from the preceding games played. The possibility of this happening is quiet low in comparison and I do not believe in Carlsen playing 1. c4 today but Caruana definitely would not prioritise preparing against this move. I though however do think that Carlsen would want to gain advantage on the clock today and get in his preparations with White which so far has not been the case very often. Today's result is going to be extremely important for the whole of the Match while a draw definitely does suit Carlsen more than anyone.
